The Boss Baby: Family Business (known in other territories as The Boss Baby 2) is an upcoming American computer-animated comedy film. The Boss Baby 2 film created loosely based on the 2010 picture book of the same name by Marla Frazee. This film produced by DreamWorks Animation and distributed by Universal Pictures. This is the second installment in the Boss Baby franchise and the sequel to the 2017 film.
The Boss Baby: Family Business is scheduled to be theatrically released by Universal Pictures on September 17, 2021 in the United States, taking the original release date of The Bad Guys. It was originally scheduled for release on March 26, 2021, but was delayed to its current date.
Released in 2017, the original “Boss Baby” took in more than $520 million at the worldwide box office and was nominated for an Academy Award for best animated feature. On May 25, 2017, Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation announced that a sequel was set to be released on March 26, 2021, with Alec Baldwin reprising his role. On May 17, 2019, it was announced that Tom McGrath will return as director and Jeff Hermann, whose credits include Bilby, Bird Karma, and Marooned, will replace the first film’s producer Ramsey Ann Naito as producer.
The film sequel follows the Templeton Brothers, Tim (voiced by James Marsden) and little brother Ted (the titular “Boss Baby,” voiced by Baldwin), who are now all grown up and have grown apart. Jeff Goldblum, Eva Longoria and Ariana Greenblatt round out the film’s main cast, with Amy Sedaris voicing Tina (Tim’s daughter and the new boss baby in town). Filmmaker Tom McGrath returns to direct, with Lisa Kudrow and Jimmy Kimmel also reprising their roles as Ted and Tim’s parents. The film is produced by Jeff Hermann.
